1. Bhogi Pongal Festival 2025
Bhogi Pongal festival is celebrated on the first day of Pongal festival. The first day of Pongal, the Bhogi Pongal festival is dedicated to Lord Indra.

2. Thai Pongal 2025
Thai Pongal is the second day of the four-day Pongal festival. Thai Pongal is considered to be the most important festival of the entire Pongal festival.

Thai Pongal is celebrated as Sankranti festival. The way Makar Sankranti is celebrated in North Indian states. Similarly, in South Indian states, especially Tamil speaking people, celebrate Makar Sankranti as Thai Pongal.

On the day of Thai Pongal, a special type of dish called Pongal is prepared. To prepare Pongal, a new clay pot is taken, in which milk, jaggery and new crop rice are boiled together.
A special and sacred tradition is followed while preparing Pongal. In this, milk is boiled until the milk starts flowing out of the earthen vessel and starts falling down. This process is considered a symbol of material abundance and prosperity.
After Pongal is cooked, it is decorated with ghee, sugar, dry fruits like cashew nuts, raisins etc.
Lord Sun is worshiped on the day of Thai Pongal. Pongal prepared with complete purity is first offered to the Sun God. Surya Dev is thanked for the good harvest and his blessings.
After offering Pongal to Lord Surya, it is given to other members of the family as Prasad on banana leaves.
